Thomas Schimmel is Professor of Physics and Director at the Institute of Applied Physics, University of Karlsruhe / KIT and Head of Department at the Institute of Nanotechnology, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). He is Chair of the Research Network “Functional Nanostructures” of Baden-Wuerttemberg and Editor-in-Chief of the Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology. He also is Director of a Research Unit at the Materials Center for Energy Research (MZE) and was Zijin Chair Professor at the Herbert Gleiter Institute of Nanoscience, Nanjing.
